Google Tools for Effective Instruction for Students with Disabilities and Diverse Learning Styles (co-sponsored with NYSCATE)- Online

This workshop directly fulfills the current DESE Individual Professional Development plan requirement of 15 PDPs in the area of training related to strategies for effective schools for students with disabilities and instruction of students with diverse learning styles.  Each session will include a short reading, collaborative discussion and an exploration of two or more Google Tools.  Also, as part of each session, participants will be asked to contribute to a comprehensive and collaborative collection of lesson plans and ideas that will be shared amongst the group.  The goal is to create a resource to be used by all – both within the course and beyond.

Prerequisites Participants must have a basic knowledge of Google Drive (Docs, Forms, and Slides) and have set up a Google account prior to orientation.  Also, participants should install Google Chrome as their browser for the class.
Graduate Credit (Optional) At the first class, participants may choose to register for 1 graduate credit through Worcester State University for an additional fee of $125. All participants, including those who do not opt for graduate credit, will receive a certificate documenting the number of course hours attended. 

Rochelle Cooper

Rochelle Cooper has been a certified educator for the past 17 years.  She began her teaching career as a special education 1:1 aide and spent the next 10 years as a 5th grade classroom teacher at Lynnfield Middle School.   Rochelle received her undergraduate degree in English from Holy Cross College and her Masters Degree in Teaching from Simmons College. She is currently an Educational Consultant specializing in Digital Learning. Rochelle is the Learning Services Assistant for 女性阴道图 – coordinating professional development opportunities for educators and administrators.  

 

 

Online Session 1:  Google Tools for Executive Functioning

Learn how to use Google Tools within Drive and Docs to aid students with tasks that require planning, organization, memory and time management.

Online Session 2:  Google Tools for Differentiated Instruction

Learn how to use Google Tools to create lesson plans that differentiate learning to encompass a variety of different learning styles and academic levels.

Online Session 3:  Google Tools for Multiple Intelligences

Explore the multiple intelligences and learn how to use Google Tools such as Google Slides to diversify your teaching to encompass them.

Online Session 4:  Google Tools for Students with Learning Disabilities

Use Google Tools to create an effective learning environment for students with learning disabilities. Explore a variety of Google Add-ons that can be used in conjunction with Docs, Sheets and forms to help students excel in their learning environment.

3-5.CAS.c.6 Identify ways in which people with disabilities access and use technology (e.g., audio players and recorders, FM listening systems, magnifiers). 

3-5.DTC.a.2 Navigate between local, networked, or online/cloud environments and transfer files between each (upload/download). 

3-5.DTC.a.3 Use digital tools (local and online) to manipulate and publish multimedia artifacts. 

9-12.CAS.c.5 Analyze the beneficial and harmful effects of computing innovations (e.g., social networking, delivery of news and other public media, intercultural communication).
